I don't really like New Year's resolutions...
They feel very forced and most people make them to feel good about themselves for a few weeks until they realize that they were too unrealistic or overwhelming to achieve and they go back to their same old habits.
It's also very difficult to stick to them in gloomy January when the festive spirit is gone, everyone is back to the grind and there is not much to look forward to.
But what if there was a way to help you achieve your goals in 2025 and make it easier for you to stick to new habits?
What if there was a a method to help you increase your motivation, focus, energy, ability to remember tasks, recover more quickly from your workouts, be more emotionally stable and thrive in relationships?
The answer is simple but not easy.
It's SLEEP 🛌
Sleep impacts all areas of health, physical and mental, and could be the foundation to a more successful 2025.
Sleep helps you process emotions
Sleep helps solidify memories
Sleep reduces cravings for unhealthy foods
Sleep helps you recover from injuries and illnesses
Sleep helps you improve your focus
Sleep helps you make better decisions in life
and the list goes on….
When we deprive ourselves of sleep, we make it so much harder for ourselves to stick to healthy habits.
Let's say your new year's resolution is to lose weight and exercise more.
It's very hard to get into the habit of getting up earlier and going for a morning run or trying to squeeze in a workout after a long day at work when you haven't had enough sleep.
You're tired, grumpy, it's dark, cold and wet outside and you just want to stay in bed or wrap up in a blanket and watch TV.
You'll also find it a lot harder to eat the right kind of foods and prioritize healthy options because a sleep deprived body craves more salty and fatty foods.
When you don't sleep well, your body is also going to find it a lot harder to shed the extra weight.
So you're basically fighting against your body if you're trying to become fit and healthy but you're not prioritizing sleep and rest first.
Ask yourself: Do I get enough quality sleep every night? Ideally, you should aim for 7-9 hours on average but think about how you feel when you get up. Do you still feel sleepy in the late mornings and do you need coffee to be functional?
So before you start making any new year's resolutions, reflect on how well you sleep before anything else.
Even just increasing your sleep by 15 minutes each night can make a massive difference and give you more energy, heightened concentration and focus, a better outlook, reduced daytime sleepiness and even lower your blood pressure.
So as you think about new goals for 2025, think about your sleep and how improving this one area of your life could propel you to new heights and success in life.
